In an Soply survey in partnership with Castini published earlier this month, the French confide in their desires (or not) for a return to the campaign. If there is a strong need for nature and the attraction for a large majority of city dwellers of a healthier living environment, the rush to the countryside is not yet for tomorrow. Yet the price per square meter is more attractive!

A need for more nature

In this Soply survey conducted with a panel of more than 1,000 people, 4 out of 10 respondents think that nature is not enough present in their commune and they are 53% in this case in Paris. Surprise: the younger generations are particularly concerned by this need of nature with a result of 53%, against 35% for over 35 years. And the more one graduates, the more the need of nature is important: 48% of graduates of higher education, against 37% for non-graduates! The political orientation is also important, since they are 50% of sensibility of left to miss of nature in city, against only 37% among the sympathizers of the right.

According to Soply, 57% of respondents living in the city would like to leave it to settle in the countryside and be closer to nature. Here again, more young people want to leave the city (65% of those under 35). On the other hand, there is no difference between graduates of higher education and non-graduates, who aspire, too, to live closer to nature. Left-wing sympathizers are 65% versus 44% right to express their desire to settle in the countryside. Yet life in the countryside is still wishful thinking for many!

The lack of public services is the main departure brake for the campaign. Six out of ten respondents cited this crippling problem. Next comes the lack of public transport (53%) and the lack of jobs (46%). The lack of local services such as shops is also a handicap for rural areas, which obviously suffer from the comparison with the profusion that exists in metropolises in this area.

The campaign, however, has an undeniable asset for any city dweller in a big city: the price of real estate. And there are the rates of mortgage, which, as for cities, are lower than ever! According to the latest barometer BestAgents, the price in rural areas has decreased by 3.8% in ten years, with prices sometimes ten times lower than those in Paris! 1280 € / m² for a house in Lozère, 1150 € / m² in Mayenne and 820 € / m² in Creuse!
